Privacy Policy
Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · This is a template, adapted to what Simpan actually does — it hasn't had a lawyer's review yet, and shouldn't be treated as binding until it does.
What Simpan is
Simpan is a household inventory app. It helps you track what's in your storage boxes: a photo, an auto-suggested label, and a QR code you can scan to see the contents again later. This policy covers the information Simpan collects and how it's used.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture from Google. We don't collect a password — Google handles authentication.
- Inventory data you create. Box labels, item titles and descriptions, and any photos you take of your belongings. This data is shared with everyone in your household (see below).
- Photos. Photos you take are stored on your device first, then synced to our storage provider (Cloudflare R2) once you're signed in.
- Session data. A session cookie that keeps you signed in. It's used only for authentication, not tracking.
AI-suggested labels
If you turn on AI suggestions (Settings → Connected features), a copy of each photo you take is sent to your household's chosen AI provider — Google Gemini or OpenAI — to suggest a title and description. This is off by default per household, and the suggestion is always yours to edit or discard before it's saved. Turning it off stops new photos from being sent.
Who your data is shared with
- Your household. Everyone in your household can see the same boxes, items, and photos — that's the point of the app. Removing yourself from a household stops your access to its data going forward.
- Google — for sign-in, and for AI suggestions if you've enabled Gemini.
- OpenAI — only if your household has chosen OpenAI (instead of Gemini) for AI suggestions.
- Cloudflare — hosts the app and stores uploaded photos (R2).
- Sentry — used only for server-side error monitoring (so we can find and fix bugs), not for tracking or analytics.
We don't run ads, and we don't use marketing or advertising trackers of any kind — nothing on this app is set up to sell or share your data with advertisers.
Data retention and deletion
Deleting a household permanently deletes everything in it — boxes, items, and photos — for every member. Leaving a household (without deleting it) doesn't affect your account or any other household you're part of. Boxes and items also work fully offline before you ever sign in; that local data stays on your device until you sign in and it syncs.
